Although a short term, the school has managed to squeeze in a large number of events, excursions and activities. These include:

• Education week activities including a classroom visit and a family picnic for our primary students.
• Adam Wallace author visit.
• Year 5 Zoo excursion.
• Year 6 MCG excursion.
• Numeracy night
• Music showcases

We have hosted two parent/carer workshops this term. The first one held was on the topic of developing resilience in young people and was held on-site at the College. This workshop was facilitated by the Big Sister Experience. The second workshop was held on Tuesday 13^th June and was on the topic of online safety. This workshop was held online and facilitated by Evolve Ed. The Evolve Ed team held workshops with our Year 5 and 6 students as well as a staff workshop after school. Thank you to Kara Bell for organising this on behalf of the College.

On Friday June 2^nd, the College ran a Reconciliation Day assembly for all of our students. It was a wonderful assembly that included performances by our school choirs. Elders came to the school and performed a smoking ceremony which everyone participated in. Thank you to the members of the Marrung Committee who planned and organised the event. A special thank you to Aimee Maddocks for hosting.

Our staff are currently in the middle of the reporting process. They are currently proof-reading reports which will be proofread again by members of the leadership team. Final edits will be completed by the end of this term before being made accessible to parents. Parent teacher interviews will be held in week two of next term.

Our Year 7/8 camp will take place next week (Wednesday to Friday) to Lake Dewar with approximately 70 students participating. This will be a wonderful way for these students to finish off the semester.

Our school review is set to take place next term. Our panel members include Cheryl Chapple (reviewer), Michaela Cole (Senior Education Improvement leader) and Patrick Mulcahy (Challenge partner). The review process includes examining the school’s performance over the last four years and setting goals and targets for our next strategic plan. As part of this process, I have met with parents and students to garner feedback about the school – this was certainly quite enlightening! Our staff have also been a vital part of this process providing much needed feedback about the school’s performance to date.

On Wednesday 14th of July we hosted the inaugural Timbarra Numeracy Night of Nights. The event showcased the links between numeracy and books, games and puzzles. Attendees had the opportunity to test their wit in our Timbarra Task Master, where teams competed to complete challenges that tested their problem solving and reasoning skills. Leading up to and as part of our event, we held a fundraising raffle with the top prize winner receiving a hundred-dollar Village Cinemas gift card. Congratulations to our winners!

We have had a terrific and busy term in 4C and 4M! This week students are putting the final touches on their ‘First Contacts’ Inquiry project – 5 journal entries written from the point of view of a convict, free settler or Indigenous Australian. It has been wonderful to see all of the research and effort everyone has put into their project. We have been working on a range of strategies to solve mathematical problems such as using partitioning and vertical addition and subtraction. We are enjoying reading a range of books during our weekly library sessions and our chosen class novel ‘Matilda’.

Laavanya 6M – Night of Notables was awesome. It was amazing to see all of the parents and guardians come together in one place and admire peoples projects.

Cruze 6M – It was really fun sharing all of my hard work with the Timbarra community and I think everyone had a lot of fun on the night.

Darcie 6W – I thought it was very funny how none of the parents or teachers recognised me in my costume as Dame Edna.

Sesandu 6W – It was fun to present my project to parents and it was nice to see people using the voting system.

Harrison 6H – I loved the ideas people had for creating their artefacts and I liked how most of the parents came.

Bronwyn 6H – I loved how all of the parents came and everyone was dressed in a costume about their notable Australia.

The Timbarra P-9 College community came together to celebrate National Reconciliation Week last week. We held a range of competitions with many prizes awarded at the ceremony. The competitions were: Indigenous Footy Player Footy Card Design, Dreamtime Architecture Design, Artist Fact File and Photography Competition. Congratulations to the winners: Nethmi, Ava, Zorah, Jade, Olive, Chloe, Jay, Wes and Valen. They walked away with indigenous designed sporting equipment and art packs.

Classes participated in a variety of activities throughout the week incorporating Dreamtime Stories, learning about influential First Nations people and history and geography activities.

On Friday 2 June, students, parents and staff members gathered in the stadium to take part in a ceremony before moving outside to witness a smoking ceremony and yidaki (didgeridoo) from the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation

In the school ceremony, the junior choir sang ‘Everyone Belongs’ and the intermediate and senior choirs joined together to perform ‘I Am Australian’. Students wore a ‘splash of yellow’ to symbolise a bright future for Australia.

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about their shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how everyone can contribute to achieving reconciliation between the Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

At Timbarra P-9 College, we are committed to learning about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Please take time to visit our multi-sensory art installation in the foyer of the school! All students in the college were invited to contribute to this amazing display.

This term was full of sporting opportunities with our secondary students participating in a range of interschool competitions.

Year 9 Girls Netball

The year 9 girls fought hard against tough competition. The girls played well as a team, however, didn’t come away with the tournament win.

Year 9 Boys Soccer

The year 9 boys played a series of games against surrounding schools. Although they didn’t get the overall win, there were some good passages of play, and the boys had a great day out.

Year 8 & 9 Boys Netball

This tournament is always a fun day out. It’s great to have a netball competition for all boys to enjoy. They came up against quality opposition and tried their best throughout the day. Unfortunately, they did not get the overall win.

Secondary Division Cross Country

On Tuesday 23rd May, our top 10 from each age group attended the Division Cross Country event. The following students are now heading to the Regional Cross Country event next Thursday 22nd June.

Year 7 & 8 Girls Netball, Boys Soccer & Boys AFL

On Wednesday 24th May, our 3 academy sports had the opportunity to play against the surrounding schools. The netball girls came away with 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw. While the soccer team …. and finally the AFL team had a tough day with 3 losses.

All teams played to the best of their ability and it was a great opportunity to use what they have been learning about on Wednesdays with their coaches, and practice this during the matches.

Netball Academy Netball Tournament – Friday 16th June

Friday morning, the Netball Academy squad hosted Hillcrest Christian College in a morning full of netball.

The two primary teams came away with convincing wins, playing some great netball and utilising what they have been learning about at training.

The senior team ended with a draw, 17 all. The game was very close the whole way through and both teams were very strong defensively.

It was a great morning, and all the students had a fun time playing against another school.

We are looking for some more rock stars to join the fun!
