I cannot believe that we are already at the start of week four! Term Four is usually one of the busiest as we continue planning for 2024, finalise staffing and host a number of important events such as information nights and graduations.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

To continue strengthening our community links, we strongly encourage you to attend the many wonderful events that the school organises for families. These events include the Creative Minds festival and the Timbarra Community Carnival. Already our events are well attended but as always, we welcome an increase in numbers!

HELMETS

If your child is riding their scooter or bike to school, they must be wearing a helmet. More and more students are riding bikes and scooters to school without helmets. PLEASE PREPARE YOUR CHILD FOR WEATHER CONDITIONS

Weather conditions are very changeable at the moment, so please prepare your child for all types of weather conditions.

• Pack an extra pair of shorts or pants just in case they slip in wet conditions.
• Ensure your child has a rainproof jacket/coat.

• All students need a school hat with a wide brim during Term Four.
• Make a plan with your child for where to meet you after school, especially on wet days.

TERM FOUR IS WEAR YOUR HAT TERM

Even though the weather is changeable at the moment, this term it is compulsory that students wear their school hats with a brim to protect them from the UV rays. Please ensure your child has a school hat.

This week in Prep P, our students delved into the ‘CH’ diagraph found in the word ‘beach’. We engaged in games of chance and probability and honed our skills in number partitioning by identifying parts of a whole. The standout moment of the week occurred during an exhilarating game of Beach Volleyball, where Mr. Coleman upped the ante by raising the net higher.

In addition, it’s been a thrilling week as we had the opportunity to assist and extend a warm welcome to the 2024 Preps during their Art transition session. We can’t wait to have them join us in the schoolyard next year!

Koko: I liked when my team won the Volleyball game! Shawn was really good at catching it.

Thomas: My favourite part of the week was when we wrote about our opinions, Which is better the beach or the pool. I like swimming at the beach because I can build big sandcastle and dig deep holes.

Ava: I liked when we partitioned the number 8, I came up with 9 different ways to break the number into parts.

Dayle: The best bit of our week was when I got the award at assembly, I was so proud.

Last term Timbarra combined the celebrations of Literacy and Numeracy Week and Book Week for a week of awesome learning and cool book adventures!

The festivities began on Thursday, 24th August, as our Year 4 and 5 students embarked on a field trip to the secondary school for a writing extravaganza. In collaborative groups, our fantastic Year 7 and 9 English students served as mentors, generously sharing valuable insights and advice to enhance the younger students' writing skills. The dynamic exchange of ideas in the sleek secondary environment made this learning experience both exciting and enriching!

The highly anticipated highlight came next with our dazzling Book Parade on Friday, the 25th. The enthusiasm was contagious as our exceptional staff and brilliant students went above and beyond, not just dressing to impress, but transforming into literary characters with creativity that truly stole the show. The school pulsated with excitement as each unique costume was proudly displayed, turning our Book Parade into a vibrant spectacle of creativity and passion for storytelling. It was fantastic to see so many parents in attendance, enjoying the creative ingenuity.

The following week continued the celebrations with our fabulously fun scavenger hunt. Blending the worlds of English and Math, students embarked on an adventure armed with a map and a trusty buddy. Their mission? To locate famous book characters strategically placed around the school grounds. As they uncovered each character, students recorded the initial letter of their names. Once all letters were collected, a secret message was revealed! Hats off to those brilliant minds who cracked the code; Read, Grow, Inspire!

Throughout the fortnight, students were able to listen to the shortlisted picture story books for Book of the Year, read by our wonderful teachers. At the end of the two weeks, students and teachers were able to vote for their favourite story. Mr Ciccarelli’s reading of Frank’s Red Hat won in a landslide, with over 100 votes!

Over the course of the fortnight, students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of the shortlisted picture storybooks for Book of the Year. Our wonderful teachers, with their storytelling finesse, brought these tales to life through the screen! As the two weeks unfolded, both students and teachers cast their votes for the standout story. In an overwhelming victory, Mr. Ciccarelli's captivating reading of "Frank's Red Hat" emerged as the undisputed favourite, securing over 100 votes!

Our celebrations wouldn’t be complete without a competition! This year's challenge tasked students with the imaginative endeavour of designing a garden inspired by their favourite book. The entries were nothing short of spectacular, presenting Miss Cosgriff with the delightfully challenging task of judging. A round of applause for our exceptionally talented designers: Jade (PP), Mitchell (2R), Nimrit (4C), and Diyon (6M).

A highlight of the Year 6 calendar as always is the Year 6 Carnival.

Students worked hard all term to apply their knowledge of Economics & Business learnt in class by creating a stalls selling their goods or services!

We are so proud of their dedication, teamwork and achievements!

On Friday 1st September, eight selected students from Years 4, 5 and 6 attended a problems solving and math game day at Oatlands Primary School. The students were required to participate in a range of activities that tested their mathematical knowledge and their critical thinking, problems solving and reasoning skills. The activities ranged from solving worded problems in teams to quick fire individual challenges. There were some extremely challenging tasks that stretched our minds! Our favourite and most successful task? The card games and puzzles, of course! We are extremely proud of how our students represented our school, demonstrating our school values of respect, resilience, persistence, getting along, organisation and confidence.

Congratulations Fraser 4C, William 4P, Ethan 5W, Denver 5M, Bonnie 5M, Ethan 6M, Aston 6M and Kaden 6W.

This week, the students in 6M have been learning all about angles, as well as learning how to use a protractor. They have been working hard on planning their information reports, finding books to research on in the library, and have been focusing on smashing out their reading assessments. During 5/6 sport, the weather was impeccable, allowing 6M to enjoy their time outdoors, performing different sports to their greatest ability.

It has certainly been a busy, exhilarating week in 6M, as they have gotten the chance to be physically active, enjoy the warm weather occasionally, and learn many valuable, important lessons throughout the week. - Ozra

Polina: I have really enjoyed using the protractor this week and learning all the factors that come with it. And I look forward to using it in the future.

Eliza: I have enjoyed making and researching about my chosen animal for the data chart. It has been really interesting learning about sea turtles!

Harvey: I have really enjoyed learning about Europe and identifying all the different countries in it. It has been fun working with Aston to learn where the different countries in Europe are located.

Favyan: I liked doing maths this week, because I got to learn about all the different types of angles.

Laavanya: I love math's, and I’ve always been interested in the topic of angles. And I am really excited that we got to learn more about them this week!

CURRICULUM DAY – Bookings will be taken from; Monday, 16^th October 2023

Friday, 3^rd November will be a Curriculum Day (Pupil Free Day), so the OSHC Program will be running that day from 7am – 6pm, just like Vacation Care.

Children will need to bring; A Hat, Healthy Snack & Lunch (no nut products) and drink bottle with water only. Children do not need to wear their uniform on this day but must be dressed appropriately for weather conditions.

JANUARY VACATION CARE 2024 INFORMATION

Please be aware that at the end of Term 4 2023, the OSHC Program finishes when the school term finishes, on Wednesday, 20^th December and will not return until; Monday, 15^th January 2024.

The January Vacation Care Program will go out on; Monday, 4^th December 2023 and you will have until; Friday, 15^th December 2023 (2 weeks) to make a booking for your child/ren

A child’s position will be suspended if payment has not been received within three weeks of receiving their invoice. The suspended place will be re-activated once the invoice has been paid in full.

SUPPORT YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATION WITH 12 MONTHS FREE INTERNET AT HOME

The Australian Government has established the School Student Broadband Initiative to provide free home internet for one year for up to 30,000 eligible families with school-aged students.

The initiative aims to boost education opportunities. NBN Co is leading the rollout of this initiative across the country.

How the School Student Broadband Initiative can help your child

Children who can access online learning at home as part of their education are more likely to engage in classroom activities.

Access to fast internet at home can also support children to build their digital skills, learn how to safely use the internet and take part in a world that is more reliant on digital technology.

Eligibility

To be eligible, families must:

• have a child living at home enrolled in an Australian school in 2023
• not have an active National Broadband Network internet service at their home (having a mobile internet service does not affect eligibility)
• live in a premises that can access the National Broadband Network through a standard connection. NBN Co will check this for you after you apply
• register interest with your school and complete a consent form to be assessed for eligibility.

How the School Student Broadband Initiative works

If you are eligible, your home internet service will be provided at no cost for one year with a participating internet provider over the National Broadband Network. Each internet provider has its own step-by-step process to get you connected, which may involve you providing identification.

Once you sign up, the internet provider will help you set up your connection. The initiative does not include devices such as a computer or tablet. Other members of your household can use the internet service provided through this initiative.

The one-year period will start from the day your service is activated with your chosen provider. At the end of the one-year period, you will not be placed onto a paid service by your internet provider without your consent. The Australian Government is considering options beyond the one-year free period.

How to apply

• Ask your school for a copy of the School Student Broadband Initiative consent form.
• Complete the consent form and return to the school.
• NBN Co will use student address details on the consent form to confirm eligibility.

• If you are eligible, NBN Co will issue a voucher for your family to use to sign up with a participating internet provider. This will be provided to you by your school.

Please note: NBN Co will review the home address for eligibility. No personal information other than your main home address will be shared with NBN Co. Please see the consent form for details about how personal information will be used.
