The purpose of this event is to give students the opportunity to rehearse and perform in a large vocal group and to work with different conductors and students from other schools.
Rehearsals are planned for the morning sessions and a recording for the afternoon session. The recording will be made available to students as a memento of the day.
Our guest clinician this year is;
Tom Buchanan
Tom is a well-known and highly regarded Melbourne-based conductor, currently directing the Australian Welsh Male Choir, Excelsis, the Mornington Peninsula Welsh Ladies’ Choir and the Yarra Philharmonic Orchestra. Tom has also previously been the Musical Director of the Monash University Choral Society (Monash University), the Mornington Peninsula Chorale (Frankston South), Casey Choir (Berwick) and Out of the Ordinary (Monash University). In addition to these roles, Tom currently directs choirs and instrumental ensembles at Kingswood College (Box Hill) where he is the Head of Music.
In recent years Tom has conducted performances extensively throughout Australia, as well as performing internationally in the Philippines, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and the USA. In 2017 Tom was invited to conduct the Male Choirs Association of Australia biennial festival in Wollongong, and in 2018 he was proud to take on the role of Deputy Conductor for the 26th London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
Tom is a passionate supporter of community music and enjoys the challenge of working with musicians who have varying levels of experience to produce exciting and engaging performance events. As the Musical Director of three very different choirs and an orchestra, Tom enjoys regularly working across a broad range of musical styles to showcase and promote the rich diversity of musical traditions, sharing the joy of creating music with singers, instrumentalists and audiences alike.
